Since those who have played in the past will know if they want to do so again, I decided to keep this as spoiler-free as I can possibly make it. I know it’s possible not to, though, because while I had heard there was something to know about this game, I managed to avoid the details all these years.

The original version came out four years ago, and many players will go in already knowing why that’s the case. I considered how much to take that into account in this review. To tell you much of anything about the story of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! would make it a much weaker game. The biggest issue is that I have so much to say and want to scream it from the rooftops. That’s not even the hardest part of reviewing it, though. There’s no room for the distance of thinking about how I’m going to put a certain amount of words on a page after I’m done with it. There’s too much about this game that’s immediate, that pulls you in and makes you want to hang on every moment. I didn’t do that with Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! I started to, but it quickly fell by the wayside. If I don’t do that, I sit down in front of my keyboard and spend an awful lot of time staring at a blank screen. Usually while I’m playing a game for review, I’m gathering my thoughts, jotting down notes, analyzing the game so I can tell you all what I think. Writing a review of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! somehow feels both vital and also impossible. It evolves in an interesting way that I’ve never seen before and perfectly accents the mood of the scenes in a brilliant and sometimes shocking way.Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! Review: A Hard Game To Talk About Something that I found distinct and unique was that the music actually changes and adapts as the story progresses.

The music of this game is some of the catchiest little ditties that I have ever heard. More examples of the brilliant art style. There’s also a large collection of pictures for player to peruse as well, should that take your fancy. It’s easy to tell that a lot of love went into this title. They’ve put a lot of effort into making it so the characters have “out of school” clothing and unique character designs that easily separate them and their personalities. The art style in this title is adorable, the characters are very cute and the world is really colorful and easy to look at. It has a fantastic way of masking those more serious issues and delivering them in a cuter art style, its actually quite similar to games like Undertale in that respect. It really has the ability to make you think, while approaching both light and heavier subjects with a unique viewpoint. There is a rich and engaging story here with so much to offer discerning players. Please, do not mistake that for boring, I can assure you that this game is anything but boring. With some more interesting sections of gameplay where you may write poems or talk with other characters about your relationship come up often, a lot of the title is clicking through conversations.
